Meet Sarah Hayes

A longstanding interest in Orthopaedics and joint mobilisation has influenced my reputation as a hands on and practical physiotherapist. I can provide evidence based treatment and rehabilitation for both acute and chronic musculo-skeletal pain and sports injuries affecting all parts of the body.
Advanced and extensive post graduate training enables me to tailor treatment to your individuals needs whether you are old or young, sedentary or active.
Pre and post operative physiotherapy is essential for a variety of surgical procedures for arthritis and traumatic injury. These include hip and knee replacements, shoulder and ankle surgery, and more complex reconstructive surgery. A timely appointment for assessment and advice prior to surgery is proven to be not only reassuring but can significantly reduce post op complications and the need for extensive rehab.

Back pain, neck pain and RSI symptoms are commonly treated along with sports injury, whiplash, arthritis, and inflammatory joint conditions.
A personal experience of acute back pain and sciatica from lumbar disc prolapse has increased my interest and experience in managing pain and symptoms promptly and effectively, thus reducing time off work and encouraging speedy return to functional exercise and sport.
I also 'enjoy' treating complex trauma injuries. The challenge of returning a patient to full fitness can often be a long but rewarding journey and needs determination from both therapist and patient alike.

Sports injuries require prompt assessment and advice to promote sound healing and limit complications. Early use of ultrasound or Interferential therapy alongside strapping or taping, may be combined with a strict progressive stretching strengthening and conditioning programme.
Return to pre injury fitness is the ultimate aim of treatment. Recovery is carefully monitored as sport and exercise are resumed and progressed.

My diploma in Occupational Health and Ergonomics enables me to approach RSI and posture related problems with an Holistic approach. Expertise and knowledge in this area is now more important than ever with increasing demands on home working in cramped spaces with non adjustable office equipment etc. Treating pain and dysfunction without addressing its cause is likely to be only of short term help but Sarah is happy and qualified to assess and advise on home working adaptations, furniture and general health and safety requirements.
I am also able to advise and implement phased return to work programmes following injury or illness and will liaise with your employer to achieve optimal outcomes.

Ergonomic workstation assessments and Posture Analysis are also available and may form part of a course of treatment for RSI, whiplash and back and neck pain. These can be carried out at your place of work whether in an office or at home.
A simple adjustment of chair height, seat tilt and lumbar support can make a real difference to annoying backache at work. Small adjustments to screen height and tilt and correct use of keyboard and mouse can also reduce unnecessary joint strain.
